Each year the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania plays host to one of the most spectacular movements of animals on the planet. They need to, for this is one of the most vulnerable moments in the wildebeest's life; prone to attack from lions, cheetah, leopard and hyena. We follow the survivors as they strengthen up over the next 3 months before, as if in response to some indiscernible cue on the air, the herd begins to move. It's going to be a long trip, and over 200,000 wildebeest won't make it.Recorded using the latest 3D techniques, the programme combines the epic scale of the animal's migration, with the intimate and emotional details of individual animals caught up in a daily struggle to survive and complete their journey.
